Gas Cylinder Explosion Kills Newlywed Pakistani Couple One Day After Wedding

A gas cylinder exploded in a house in the capital of Pakistan, killing a newlywed couple who had married just one day earlier, along with six other victims.

Foreign news agencies reported on 11 Jan 2026 GMT+7 that a gas cylinder exploded in a house in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, killing a newlywed couple who had held their wedding reception only a day before.

The explosion also killed six others, including wedding guests and family members who were staying in the house, bringing the total death toll to eight, with more than 10 injured.

The blast occurred at 07:00 local time on Sunday (11 Jan), causing the house’s roof to collapse and some walls to be destroyed by the force, scattering debris and furniture everywhere.

Rescue officials stated the explosion was caused by accumulated leaked gas filling the room before detonating. Additionally, three neighboring houses were also damaged.

Hanif Masih, the groom’s father, revealed that his son had just been married recently, and that the newlyweds, along with family members and guests, were resting inside the house when the explosion occurred.

Masih said everyone went to bed around 03:00 local time, only to wake up to complete devastation. Besides his son, his daughter-in-law, wife, and sister-in-law all died in the incident.

Police said they have cordoned off the scene and are urgently investigating the cause of the explosion. Forensic teams in white suits are examining the rubble thoroughly, using sniffer dogs and advanced technology to ensure all survivors have been rescued from beneath the debris.
