Kīlauea Volcano in Hawaii Erupts, Spewing Lava Fountain Continuously

Kīlauea Volcano in Hawaii erupted again, sending a hot lava fountain soaring into the sky. This is the 40th eruption of one of the world's most active volcanoes.

Bright red lava jets erupted from Kīlauea Volcano on Hawaii's Big Island, United States, once again. The latest eruption occurred late Sunday night into Monday morning local time.

Kīlauea is one of the world's most active volcanoes, and this eruption marks the 40th since continuous records began. The volcano has erupted intermittently since 1983.

Although Kīlauea is smaller than Mauna Loa, the largest volcano in the world, it erupts more frequently and often thrills tourists who take helicopter tours to see the hot lava from above.

Kīlauea is one of six active volcanoes in the Hawaiian Islands and is a key feature of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, with a large crater nearly 5 kilometers long and about 3 kilometers wide, covering over 10 square kilometers.

Officials say Kīlauea has been erupting intermittently since late December 2024 and remains under close surveillance.
