A major fire broke out in a densely populated community in the Gangnam district of Seoul, South Korea, leading authorities to urgently mobilize nearly 300 firefighters to control the situation.
South Korean firefighters have mobilized to control a large fire in a slum area of Gangnam, working against time to contain the rapidly spreading flames. Authorities raised the fire alert to level 2 amid concerns that the blaze could spread to nearby mountainous areas, deploying a total of 85 fire trucks to the scene.
The Seoul Fire and Disaster Relief Office reported that so far there have been no fatalities or injuries related to the incident. However, at least 47 residents have been evacuated from the area for their safety.
However, firefighters could not use helicopters to assist firefighting efforts due to Seoul being covered by smoke and fine dust particles.
South Korea's Minister of Public Safety, Yoon Ho-jung, has ordered all relevant agencies to mobilize all available personnel and equipment, focusing on helping residents and controlling the fire as quickly as possible.
The incident occurred in Guryeong Village, a densely populated and deteriorated community located in the heart of Gangnam, one of the most valuable areas in Seoul, which is currently under plans for redevelopment into high-rise residential buildings.
