Bruce Leung, a famous Hong Kong martial arts actor known for his role as "The Beast" in the film "Kung Fu Hustle," has died at the age of 77.,

Foreign news agencies reported on 18 Jan 2026 GMT+7 that Bruce Leung, also known as Leung Siu-lung, a renowned Hong Kong martial arts actor with a distinguished career in many action films, passed away on 14 Jan at the age of 77.

According to close friends of Mr. Leung, his family is arranging a private funeral, with a preliminary memorial service scheduled for 26 January in the Longgang district of Shenzhen.

Leung Siu-lung, also known as Bruce Leung, was a key figure in Hong Kong's film industry throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He was an expert in both Goju-ryu karate and Wing Chun kung fu. He left a legacy of classic films and was once considered part of the "Bruceploitation" group—actors resembling or standing in for Bruce Lee—who gained fame after Bruce Lee's death.

Bruce Leung appeared in many films such as The Tattoo Connection and worked with Jackie Chan in Magnificent Bodyguards. However, his most internationally recognized role was as "The Beast," the formidable villain in the blockbuster Kung Fu Hustle by Stephen Chow in 2004, marking a triumphant return to the screen after a hiatus.

Mr. Leung had a long career in entertainment spanning several decades. His later works included the 2007 documentary Dragonland and the 2020 Chinese TV series Heroes. In his personal life, he was married to Song Xiang since 1995 and had two children.
