Zootopia 2 has broken records to become the highest-grossing Hollywood animation ever, earning $1.7 billion, surpassing Inside Out 2 but still behind China's Ne Zha 2.
Foreign news agencies reported on 19 Jan 2026 that Zootopia 2 has become the highest-grossing Hollywood animated film ever, with box office earnings worldwide reaching $1.7 billion (approximately 53 billion baht).
Zootopia 2 surpassed the previous record holder, Inside Out 2, which made $1.69 billion (about 52.8 billion baht) after its release in 2024.
Currently, Zootopia 2 ranks ninth among the most successful films in global box office history, trailing behind major blockbusters like Avatar, Titanic, Avengers: Endgame, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
However, although Zootopia 2 set a Hollywood record, the highest-grossing animation overall remains China’s Ne Zha 2, which earned $2.2 billion (around 68.7 billion baht) last year.
"This significant achievement belongs to fans worldwide, and above all, your enthusiasm made this possible," said Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, in a statement. "We are extremely proud of our filmmakers... Zootopia 2 is an extraordinary success, and we thank everyone who helped bring this film to life."
Zootopia 2 also broke records for the highest-grossing opening weekend for an animated film and became the fastest Hollywood animation to reach $1 billion globally.
Nevertheless, the fantasy adventure Ne Zha 2 continues to lead by a wide margin, with most of its $2.2 billion revenue coming from the domestic Chinese market.
Incidentally, both Zootopia films released in the UK and Europe are titled Zootropolis due to copyright issues, as a Danish zoo owns the rights to the name “Zootopia.” Disney used a different name to avoid conflict. In Germany, the films are called Zoomania for similar reasons.
