Donald Trump spoke at the World Economic Forum, criticizing Europe for going in the wrong direction and saying that Europe has changed so much it is unrecognizable due to large-scale unchecked immigration.
On Wednesday, 21 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, delivered a speech at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Trump began his remarks by greeting the billionaires and world leaders gathered in the packed conference hall. “It’s a pleasure to be back in beautiful Davos, Switzerland, speaking before so many respected business leaders, many friends, and only a few enemies,” he said, drawing polite laughter from the audience.
The U.S. president wasted no time in strongly criticizing Europe, telling the European officials seated throughout the hall that parts of their continent have changed so much they are barely recognizable.
“We could debate this, but there is nothing to debate. My friends returning from various places said, and I don’t mean to offend anyone, ‘I don’t recognize that place at all,’” Trump said. “And it’s not in a good way; it’s very bad.”
Trump added that Europe’s immigration and economic policies have led to negative consequences compared to what he called the “economic miracle” in the United States.
“I love Europe, and I want to see Europe succeed, but it is not heading in the right direction,” he said, blaming increased government spending, massive unchecked immigration, and endless imports from abroad.
