Donald Trump declared at the Davos conference that the United States has no involvement whatsoever in the Ukraine war, and that it is Europe that must find a way to handle the situation, not the U.S.
On Wednesday, 21 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, delivered a speech at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
At one point, Donald Trump expressed indifference toward Ukraine during his speech, stating that "there is a vast and beautiful ocean" separating the U.S. from Europe, and that the United States "has no involvement whatsoever in this matter."
Trump raised the issue of Ukraine and Russia’s war while discussing NATO, which he said treats the United States "extremely unfairly." He also reiterated that the war would not have occurred if he had been president at the time and reaffirmed his claim that the 2020 U.S. election was "fraudulent."
The president questioned what his country has gained from trying to end the war in Ukraine, asking, "Beyond death, destruction, and vast sums of cash flowing to those who do not appreciate what we have done?"
"I’m talking about NATO, I’m talking about Europe. They have to deal with Ukraine, not us. The United States is very far away. We have a vast and beautiful ocean separating us. We have no involvement whatsoever in this matter," he said.
