Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine's leader, revealed that a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, the US, and Russia is about to take place in the UAE and criticized Europe for its silence on both the war in Ukraine and the situation in Greenland.
On Thursday, 22 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He stated that officials from Ukraine, the US, and Russia will hold a trilateral meeting in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday and Saturday.
Zelenskyy also said that the document proposing an end to the war in Ukraine is nearly complete, with teams from the US and Ukraine working "almost every day" to resolve the conflict.
"Ukraine is working sincerely and decisively, which is yielding results, and Russia must also prepare to end this war and stop its aggression," he added.
Zelenskyy further criticized European leaders for their silence on the ongoing war in Ukraine, noting that they have instead turned their attention to Greenland.
"Everyone is focusing on Greenland, and it is clear that most leaders are unsure how to handle this. It seems everyone is just waiting for the US to calm down on this issue, hoping it will pass by itself. But what if it doesn't?" Zelenskyy questioned.
"We have told our European allies many times to take action now... but Europe remains in 'Greenland mode,' hoping someday someone will do something," the Ukrainian leader said.
"You must choose between declaring that military bases in Europe will protect the region from Russia and China and establishing those bases, or risk losing respect," Zelenskyy said regarding Greenland, underscoring what Donald Trump once said about Arctic security: "Because 40 soldiers cannot protect anything."
Zelenskyy warned about Russian warships "freely sailing around Greenland" and offered Ukraine's expertise and weapons "to ensure that not a single one of those ships survives."
"They can be sunk near Greenland, just as they were sunk near Crimea," he added. "We can act and know how to fight there if requested and if Ukraine were in NATO... but we are not."
