A shooting occurred in a small town in New South Wales, Australia, resulting in three deaths and one critical injury, while the suspect escaped.
Emergency responders were alerted and rushed to a residential area in Lake Cargelligo at around 16:40 on Thursday, 22 Jan 2026 GMT+7. New South Wales police confirmed the suspect remains at large and is believed to have fled using a vehicle.
Police added that a man and woman were found shot dead inside a vehicle. Shortly after, a second shooting incident occurred, causing the death of another woman and leaving a man critically injured, who is currently hospitalized.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the incident is suspected to be related to domestic violence.
Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland of New South Wales Police declined to comment on the relationship between the shooter and victims but stated that warnings have been issued for residents to remain indoors, and multiple crime scenes have been cordoned off for evidence collection.
Lake Cargelligo is located in central New South Wales and has a population of about 1,500 people.
This incident follows a major shooting at a Jewish festival on Bondi Beach in Sydney last December, which resulted in 15 deaths and led the government to reform gun control laws and hate speech legislation.
