Ukraine-Russia-US Peace Talks Stall After Two Days as Moscow Continues Attacks

Peace talks among Ukraine, Russia, and the US that lasted two days ended without clear progress on ending the war, as Moscow launched a new wave of attacks across various parts of Ukraine.

On Saturday, 24 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the second day of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the US in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, concluded without clear progress on ending the war in Ukraine, while Moscow’s forces continued relentless attacks on multiple targets across Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the second round of talks could happen as early as next week, with US officials later stating the next negotiations would begin Sunday, 1 Feb 2026 GMT+7.

The trilateral meeting ended after Russian forces launched a fresh wave of attacks overnight into Saturday across several areas in Ukraine, resulting in one death in Kiev and 35 injuries, mostly in Kharkiv.

Vitaly Klitschko, Kiev’s mayor, stated that critical infrastructure in the capital was damaged, leaving more than 6,000 buildings without heating amid freezing temperatures, some as low as -12°C.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha described the attacks as “brutal” and “inhumane,” ordered by Russian leader Vladimir Putin, adding that these actions not only harm Ukrainian citizens but also destroy the peace negotiation process.

Sybiha also said, “The main discussion point was the scope of possibilities to end the war. I highly value the necessity for the US to monitor and oversee the ongoing peace process to ensure true security.”

He added that all parties agreed to “report back to their governments” and coordinate next steps with their leadership. Military representatives outlined topics for potential future meetings if there is readiness to proceed. Ukraine is prepared, and subsequent talks could happen as soon as next week.

Sybiha further condemned Russia’s attacks as “barbaric,” asserting that “Putin’s place is not on the Board of Peace but in the defendant’s dock of a special tribunal.”

Last week, US President Donald Trump revealed that Putin had accepted an invitation to join his Board of Peace, though Putin has not confirmed this.
