China Vows to Intensify Military Anti-Corruption Drive Following Probes of Two Senior Officers Reflecting Xi Jinpings Firm Stance

China's military newspaper published a resolute article declaring a continued crackdown on corruption within the armed forces, stating "no exceptions—no one is spared," following investigations into two top military officers. This reflects the decisive leadership of Communist Party leader and President Xi Jinping.

On 25 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Xinhua News Agency reported that PLA Daily, the main media outlet of the People's Liberation Army, published an editorial reaffirming China's firm stance to fight and decisively win the war against corruption in the military.

The editorial was released after Chinese authorities announced investigations into Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission and member of the Chinese Communist Party's Political Bureau, and Liu Jinli, a CMC member and chief of the Joint Staff Department, on charges of serious disciplinary and legal violations.

The article stated that the decision by the CCP Central Committee to investigate these two senior officials clearly signals that the anti-corruption campaign has no forbidden zones, no one is above the law, and no compromises are accepted. Regardless of position, those involved in corruption will face consequences without exception. The investigation is hailed as a key outcome of the military's anti-corruption sweep and a sign of the Party and military's power and commitment.

Furthermore, the article noted that under the leadership of the CCP Central Committee with Xi Jinping at its core, the military will continue to eradicate all forms of corruption. It emphasized that 2026, the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan for economic and social development, is a pivotal year for reforming China's military.
