Venezuelas Acting Leader Declares Enough to U.S. Orders, Seeks to Resolve Internal Conflict Independently

Venezuela's acting president announced that he has had enough of U.S. orders interfering with Venezuelan politicians and affirmed the desire to resolve the country's internal conflicts independently rather than through external interference.

Foreign news agencies reported on 26 Jan 2026 that Delcy Rodriguez, Venezuela's acting president, said she has "had enough" of U.S. government orders while she strives to foster national unity after former leader Nicolás Maduro was arrested by the U.S. earlier this month.

Rodriguez has found herself in a dilemma since being supported by the U.S. to serve as acting leader, needing to balance keeping Maduro loyalists cooperative within Venezuela while trying to satisfy the White House's expectations.

Now, nearly a month into her new role, Rodriguez has begun pushing back against the U.S. amid mounting pressure, including demands for Venezuela to resume oil production.

"Enough of Washington's orders over Venezuelan politicians," she said before oil workers in the city of Puerto La Cruz, in a speech broadcast live on the government channel Venezolana de Televisión.

"Let Venezuelan politics be the one to resolve our differences and internal conflicts. This republic has paid a heavy price facing the consequences of fascist and extremist ideologies within our country."

Rodriguez, a former vice president under Maduro, has insisted in recent weeks that the U.S. does not govern Venezuela, though she has also avoided seeking conflict with Washington.

U.S. President Donald Trump had once claimed the U.S. "would govern" Venezuela immediately after Maduro's arrest, but later supported Rodriguez as acting leader earlier this month. Trump said he spoke by phone with her and praised her as "a great person," adding, "I think we are doing well with Venezuela."

The Trump administration set multiple demands Venezuela must accept, including cutting ties with China, Iran, Russia, and Cuba, and agreeing to be the sole oil production partner with the U.S., according to former White House officials.

Furthermore, Rodriguez is expected to prioritize the Trump government and U.S. oil companies as Venezuela’s primary partners in future oil trade.
