
India has emphasized that the Nipah virus situation in West Bengal remains under control, with only 2 cases detected since December 2025. Nearly 200 close contacts were monitored, and no further infections were identified.
On 27 Jan 2026 GMT+7, India's Ministry of Health issued a statement saying that from December 2025 to date, only 2 Nipah virus infection cases have been found in West Bengal. This information was confirmed by the Indian National Centre for Disease Control.
The Ministry of Health also stressed that following confirmation of the two cases, the central government coordinated with the West Bengal state government to implement strict public health measures immediately, including case investigations, proactive surveillance, and laboratory testing.
Reports indicate officials identified a total of 196 close contacts related to the patients. All were monitored, screened, and tested, with results showing that none exhibited symptoms or tested positive for Nipah virus infection.
India's Ministry of Health confirmed that no new cases have been detected so far and that the situation continues to be closely monitored. They reiterated that all necessary public health measures have been implemented to prevent widespread transmission.
