Japanese police are urgently searching for three suspects who sprayed victims before stealing a cash bag worth about 420 million yen, or over 100 million baht, in the Higashi-Ueno area of Tokyo.
On 29 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Tokyo police announced a major cash robbery in the Higashi-Ueno district, where at least three suspects used a pepper spray-like substance on victims before grabbing a suitcase containing 420 million yen (about 100 million baht) in cash and fleeing.
Reports say the five victims—Japanese and Chinese aged between 20 and 40—were loading cash into a vehicle when the suspects attacked. All were affected by the spray but none suffered serious injuries.
Police said suspects remain at large. Initial descriptions include a male suspect about 170 cm tall wearing a knit cap, black jacket, and pants. Shortly after, a man around 50 years old was slightly injured in a hit-and-run about 100 meters from the scene. A blue minivan was found abandoned nearby. Authorities are investigating if these incidents are connected and are intensifying efforts to capture the culprits for prosecution.
