Russia continues to attack various areas in Ukraine. One drone crashed near a bus carrying employees of a Ukrainian private company, causing 12 fatalities, while a maternity hospital was also attacked, injuring several people.
Foreign news agencies reported, citing Ukrainian local officials, that Russia sent a drone to attack near a shuttle bus transporting employees of a company in the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine, resulting in at least 12 deaths and 7 injuries.
Meanwhile, DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy company, stated that the bus had just left a local mine transporting their staff. They condemned the incident as a deliberate attack on a clear target and reported the death toll as 15.
At the same time, local officials reported at least 3 more deaths and 9 injuries from other Russian attacks in different parts of Ukraine overnight until Sunday morning. This included two women injured during childbirth when a Russian drone struck a maternity hospital.
Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia regional administration, reported 6 injuries from the attack on the maternity hospital. He posted on Telegram denouncing the event as “further evidence of a war aimed at destroying lives.”
Russia has launched repeated attacks on Ukraine's power grid throughout January, affecting heating and electricity systems during an unusually cold winter. Temperatures in some areas are forecast to drop below minus 20 degrees Celsius this weekend.
Last Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to suspend attacks on major Ukrainian cities during the severe cold period, initially for one week. The Kremlin later stated the ceasefire would last until Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the second round of tripartite peace talks to end the nearly four-year conflict will begin next Wednesday, instead of Sunday as originally scheduled, without explaining the reason for the delay.
