Exiled Tibetans in 27 Countries Worldwide Begin Voting in Overseas Parliamentary Elections

Tibetans living in 27 countries worldwide have begun exercising their right to vote in the election of members to the exile Tibetan parliament. A total of 309 polling stations have been established to elect representatives who will represent the voice and interests of the Tibetan people.

On 1 February 2026, the AP news agency reported that the overseas Tibetan parliamentary elections have started in Dharamshala, India, the seat of the Tibetan government in exile. A total of 309 polling stations have been set up across 27 countries worldwide, with more than 1,737 election officials managing the process.

The countries holding elections cover regions in both Asia and the West, including India, Nepal, Bhutan, as well as several Western countries that are home to Tibetan diaspora communities.

These overseas Tibetan parliamentary elections represent a key democratic process for the global Tibetan exile community to select representatives who will voice and protect the interests of Tibetans living outside Tibet, amid a political situation that remains sensitive to this day.
