Norwegian Crown Princesss Son Arrested for Fourth Time Ahead of Rape Trial

Marius Borg Høiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, was arrested by police for the fourth time ahead of his court case on charges of rape and drug offenses.

Foreign news agencies reported on 2 Feb 2026 that Marius Borg Høiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, was arrested on suspicion of assault ahead of his court hearing in Oslo on Tuesday (3 Feb) to face a total of 38 charges, including the rape of four women.

Police stated that the arrest took place last Sunday, with the latest allegations against Høiby involving the use of a knife as a weapon and violation of a restraining order, with concerns that he might reoffend.

This marks the fourth time Høiby has been detained by police since August 2024, following accusations of assaulting a woman he was involved with. Høiby has pleaded not guilty to the most serious charges, such as rape and domestic violence, but admitted to some lesser offenses.

The scandal surrounding the Norwegian royal family does not end there, as documents from Jeffrey Epstein's case released by U.S. authorities reveal that Crown Princess Mette-Marit corresponded with Epstein through letters between 2011 and 2014, several years after the former financier was convicted of sex trafficking.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit has admitted that contacting Epstein was a “mistake,” expressing deep regret and offering support to his victims, calling her association with him “extremely shameful.”

Information also emerged that Crown Princess Mette-Marit stayed at Epstein’s Florida residence for four nights while he was absent, and once asked him whether it was inappropriate for a mother to give her 15-year-old son wallpaper depicting two nude women holding surfboards.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said he agreed with Crown Princess Mette-Marit's admission of poor judgment regarding Epstein, implicitly criticizing her actions—a rare public rebuke of a royal family member.

Høiby is the son of Mette-Marit and her former close friend Morten Borg, born before her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon of Norway. At that time, Høiby was four years old; Crown Prince Haakon later adopted him, but Høiby remains a commoner without royal titles or official duties.

Høiby faces charges ranging from rape and abuse to violating restraining orders, transporting 3.5 kilograms of cannabis, and speeding violations.
