Arizona police believe the mother of an NBC News female reporter who disappeared did not leave her home voluntarily. Authorities are mobilizing a large-scale search.
Foreign news agencies reported on 3 Feb 2026 that police in Arizona, USA, said they suspect the mother of Savannah Guthrie, the well-known NBC News anchor, “did not leave voluntarily” and was abducted from her residence.
Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, was last seen at her home outside Tucson, Arizona, on the evening of Saturday, 31 Jan. Her family reported her missing the following day.
Chris Nanos, sheriff of Pima County, said that when officers arrived, the condition inside Nancy Guthrie’s home caused great concern. The motive of the perpetrator remains unclear, and no possibilities have been ruled out, including the theory that Nancy was targeted because of her daughter’s fame.
CBS News reported that police found blood inside Nancy Guthrie’s home and are investigating to identify whose blood it is. Sheriff Nanos did not confirm whether Nancy was injured and said police are checking if she had been stalked or threatened previously.
The sheriff added, “We are dedicating all available resources to this mission,” using drones, planes, helicopters, heat sensors, and infrared cameras.
Savannah Guthrie, who hosts the Today show, did not appear on Monday morning’s program. She was originally scheduled to co-host NBC’s Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday, but due to this incident, it remains uncertain whether she will participate in the coverage.
