A 14-year-old boy stabbed his art teacher seriously in front of classmates at school. He admitted to police that he acted because he harbored excessive hatred toward the teacher.
Foreign news agencies reported that in France, a 14-year-old boy stabbed his art teacher multiple times, causing serious injuries. He was arrested and told police he attacked the female teacher due to overwhelming hatred.
Local officials revealed that the 60-year-old female teacher remains in critical condition after the boy stabbed her 3 to 4 times in the chest in front of 22 students at La Guicharde school in Sanary-sur-Mer, southeastern France, on Tuesday, 3 Feb 2024 GMT+7.
Rafael Ballond, prosecutor in Toulon, said in a statement that the boy planned the attack in advance. He told police he took a knife from his home kitchen intending to stab his teacher.
Ballond added that authorities found no religious or political motive in the attack. He also mentioned the boy was upset because the teacher had reported his disciplinary issues multiple times, which he considered “unfair.”
AFP reported that the 14-year-old perpetrator told officials he deeply regrets his actions and now hates himself even more than the victim.
French authorities stated that the decision on whether to detain the boy pending trial will be made when he appears in court.
According to AFP, the injured teacher has worked at the school for 28 years. She is currently hospitalized at Saint-Anne Military Hospital in Toulon. Reports say her condition stabilized after surgery but remains critical.
This is the latest school-related student attack in France. Last year, a 14-year-old was charged with murdering a teaching assistant after allegedly stabbing her to death in June.
Earlier in April of the same year, another student went on a stabbing spree in Nantes, western France, killing one girl and injuring several others.
In 2020, Samuel Paty, a teacher, was murdered outside his suburban Paris school by a Chechen refugee in an attack motivated by religious extremism.
