China's railway authority has taken various measures to address the effects of extreme cold weather and to ensure safety in railway transportation.
On 5 Feb 2026 GMT+7, China Media Group reported that Chinese authorities announced their readiness to handle a cold wave that could affect public travel on high-speed rail systems. They are accelerating ice melting on railway tracks to prevent ice and snow from splashing during train operation, which could pose safety risks.
The railway authority in Hubei Province has implemented appropriate measures to ensure railway transportation safety during snowfall. Leveraging its role as a network hub, it integrates automated systems, organizes train schedules suitably, guarantees essential goods transportation, and adds anti-slip mats and warning signs at railway stations to protect passengers.
Meanwhile, the Qingdao branch of the Jinan Railway Office in Shandong Province has increased inspections of critical railway equipment and conducted ice melting during periods of ice and rainfall.
