A suicide bombing took place during Friday prayers at a Shiite mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan, killing at least 31 people and injuring over 130. Authorities said the bomber exchanged gunfire with security forces before detonating the explosives.

On 6 February 2026, a shocking incident occurred in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, when a suicide bomber attacked a Shiite mosque during Friday prayers. The blast killed at least 31 people and injured more than 130, marking one of the deadliest attacks in the capital in recent years.

Local Pakistani media reported that the explosion occurred at the “Khadijah tul Kubra” mosque in the Tar Lai Gallan area in southeastern Islamabad. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said mosque security personnel tried to stop the suspect, but the attacker opened fire before detonating the bomb amid a large crowd.

Islamabad authorities said rescue teams transported the injured to hospitals. Videos and photos on social media showed dead and wounded bodies scattered inside the mosque amid broken glass and debris.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar condemned the attack, calling it a cowardly suicide assault on innocent people. He emphasized that attacks on places of worship and targeting civilians are crimes against humanity and gravely violate Islamic principles.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and those injured. President Asif Ali Zardari stated that the nation stands firmly with those affected by this tragic event.
