Recently released U.S. documents indicate that former Prince Andrew disclosed information from his duties as a trade envoy to Jeffrey Epstein, including recommending investment opportunities.
The BBC reported that documents disclosed by the U.S. White House two weeks ago suggest that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor appeared to deliberately share confidential information from his 2010–2011 trade envoy duties with Jeffrey Epstein.
Under official protocols, trade envoys are required to keep sensitive information—commercial or political—related to their official duties confidential. By law, this duty of confidentiality continues even after their term ends.
However, revealed emails show that on 7 October 2010, Andrew sent official travel details for his role as trade envoy—covering Singapore, Vietnam, Shenzhen in China, and Hong Kong—to Epstein. Notably, one of Epstein’s business partners accompanied him on the trip.
After completing the trip, on 30 November that year, Andrew appears to have forwarded an official report to Epstein just five minutes after receiving it from his assistant, Amit Patel.
Andrew told BBC Newsnight in 2019 that he last met Epstein in New York in early December 2010 to inform the notorious financier that he was ending their friendship.
Nonetheless, on Christmas Eve that year, Andrew emailed Epstein confidential information about investment opportunities related to the reconstruction of Helmand Province in Afghanistan, which was then under British military control and funded by UK government money.
At that time, Epstein had already been convicted of sex crimes.
In a subsequent email dated 9 February 2011, Andrew suggested that Epstein might consider investing in an asset management company Andrew had visited the previous week.
Andrew has long faced questions about his relationship with Epstein after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct facilitated by Epstein, leading Andrew to gradually step back from royal duties until he was stripped of his titles in October last year.
In early February, Andrew relocated from Royal Lodge in Windsor to Sandringham House in Norfolk while his new residence undergoes renovations.
