Israel launched a new round of attacks on Lebanon, claiming to target a Hezbollah commander, but the strike resulted in the death of a father and his child.
Foreign news agencies reported that Israel began a new airstrike campaign in Lebanon on Monday, 9 Feb 2026 GMT+7, stating that the target was a Hezbollah commander. However, the attack ended up killing a Lebanese security officer and his child.
Israel continues frequent attacks on Lebanon despite both sides agreeing to a ceasefire in November 2024 GMT+7, which ended over a year of clashes with Hezbollah.
On Monday, Lebanon's Ministry of Health said Israel's attack in the southern village of Yanuh caused three deaths.
The Israeli military said the strike targeted Ahmad Ali Salameh, accused of being Hezbollah’s artillery chief and working to restore the group's capabilities.
However, Lebanon’s government-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that besides Salameh, the attack also killed a Lebanese security force member and his three-year-old child who were nearby.
The Israeli military stated it is investigating reports that civilians or uninvolved individuals were killed in the strike.
Later the same day, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported another Israeli strike in the border village of Aita al-Shaab, which caused one more death. The Israeli army said the deceased was a Hezbollah member gathering intelligence on Israeli forces and working to rebuild terrorist infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah called on the Lebanese government to take preventive measures, clearly assert its position, and act immediately at all levels—political, diplomatic, and legal—to seriously protect its citizens.
Hezbollah accused Israel of kidnapping more than 20 Lebanese citizens since the conflict began, with 10 of them abducted after the ceasefire agreement took effect.
