Rising star singer Chappell Roan immediately announced she was ending her contract with a major agency after the name of executive Casey Wasserman appeared in documents related to Jeffrey Epstein's child sexual abuse case. She emphasized the need to uphold integrity and ethics above personal gain and urged the entertainment industry to take responsibility.
Chappell Roan, a famous singer and artist, announced via her personal Instagram that she has ended her artist contract with Wasserman, a major talent agency headed by CEO Casey Wasserman, after his name appeared in documents linked to Jeffrey Epstein, the former billionaire convicted of child sexual abuse.
In her statement, Roan said she has a duty to protect her team, and this decision reflects her belief that "meaningful change in our industry requires accountability." She added that artists, agents, or any staff should never be expected to defend or overlook actions that seriously violate moral values.
Wasserman has come under heavy criticism after revealing a 2003 flirtatious email he sent to Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's close associate, which was included in millions of documents related to the Epstein case. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for procuring and trafficking underage girls for sexual abuse.
Wasserman, who also serves as chairman of the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics (LA28), is facing pressure to resign despite expressing "deep regret" over the messages, claiming they occurred over 20 years ago. He insisted he never had a personal or business relationship with Epstein, though he did travel on Epstein's plane with the Clinton Foundation delegation in 2002.
Chappell Roan's announcement follows other signed bands showing opposition, such as indie rock band Wednesday, who said they were "shocked" to see Wasserman's name in the Epstein documents and want to sever ties immediately. Meanwhile, Beach Bunny expressed "disappointment and disgust" over his connection with Ghislaine Maxwell.
Although Wasserman has not been formally charged by any victims, and having his name in the documents does not necessarily imply criminal guilt, the backlash from a high-profile artist like Chappell Roan has put immense pressure on his future in the media and global sports industries.
