A passenger plane from a Somali airline made an emergency landing after a technical malfunction caused the aircraft to hit the ground hard and sustain damage. However, all 55 passengers and crew survived.
Foreign news agencies reported that a medium-sized passenger plane from Somalia's Starsky Aviation experienced a technical problem, prompting the pilot to make an emergency landing near the coastline adjacent to Mogadishu International Airport. All 55 passengers and crew on board survived.
Starsky Aviation stated in a press release that the pilot's quick decision was crucial in saving the lives of the 50 passengers and 5 crew members on the aircraft.
Meanwhile, Somalia's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) reported that the crew of the Fokker 50 plane experienced issues shortly after takeoff from Mogadishu Airport on the morning of Tuesday, 10 Feb 2026 GMT+7, leading the pilot to request permission to return and land.
Ahmed Makalin Hassan, director of the CAA, said the plane touched down but was unable to stop on the runway, sliding off the airfield and coming to rest in shallow water.
A delegation from the African Union in Somalia stated that UN and African Union forces were quickly dispatched to the scene to support rescue operations, and Somalia’s Minister of Transport also traveled to the site.
"We are relieved to confirm that all passengers and crew are safe. An investigation is underway to determine the technical cause that led to the emergency landing," said Starsky spokesperson Hassan Mohamed Aden.
