FBI Releases Image of Masked Suspect in Abduction of Female Journalists Mother

The FBI has released an image of a masked man suspected of involvement in the abduction of the mother of an NBC News reporter eight days ago, while her family appeals to the public for assistance.

On 10 Feb 2026, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released an image of a masked individual suspected to be connected to the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of Savannah Guthrie, the well-known anchor for NBC News.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, around midnight, last seen on 31 Jan. Authorities believe she was taken from the house against her will.

The FBI stated that agents are urgently working to identify the masked man, who was armed.

“As of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered previously inaccessible images showing an armed individual appearing to tamper with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door on the morning she disappeared,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement on X.

Patel added that officials are working to recover footage from the home’s surveillance system, which “may be lost, damaged, or inaccessible due to various factors, including removal of recording devices.”

Authorities also released two short videos showing the suspect approaching Nancy Guthrie’s front door, inspecting the security camera, then picking up debris from the ground and using it to obscure the camera lens.

Savannah Guthrie said Monday that her family believes her mother is still alive and renewed their plea for anyone with information to come forward.

She reiterated the appeal Tuesday by reposting the surveillance images on her Instagram with the message, “We believe she is still alive. Please bring her home.”

This marks the first major development in the case since Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance eight days ago, attracting nationwide attention. The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for any useful tips.

Last week, Pima County officials reported that the doorbell camera at Nancy Guthrie’s home was disconnected at 01:47 a.m. local time on 31 Jan, shortly before the camera’s motion sensor detected activity at 02:12 a.m.

Then, at 02:28 a.m., the application linked to Nancy’s implanted defibrillator disconnected from her phone. Police also found blood on the porch confirmed by analysis to be hers.

Subsequently, ransom demands were sent via email to U.S. news agencies, requesting Bitcoin payment with a deadline of 5 Feb, which has now passed.
