Global influential artist Taylor Swift has filed a petition with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) opposing the trademark registration of a bedding company named "Swift Home," stating that the company intentionally uses a script font similar to her signature that could confuse consumers.
TAS Rights Management, which manages Taylor Swift's rights, submitted the opposition documents against Cathay Home last Wednesday, stating that the word "Swift" in the company's logo, written in connected italic letters, closely resembles Taylor's registered signature trademark and could lead customers to believe she is associated with or endorses their products.
Swift's legal team stated in the petition that Cathay Home's "Swift Home" brand design creates a "false association," deliberately seeking to exploit the "fame and popularity" of the artist to add value to their bedding brand.
The documents also affirm that Taylor Swift owns federally registered trademarks protecting both her name and signature across a variety of products, including bedding, clothing, and music-related merchandise. Currently, Swift has registered over 300 trademarks covering her name, initials, album titles, and even portions of her song lyrics.
Cathay Home, founded in New York, sells bedding products such as pillows, mattresses, and bed linens through major retailers including Target, Nordstrom, and Bed Bath & Beyond. The company has applied to register the "Swift Home" trademark since last year.
Taylor Swift, a 14-time Grammy Award winner, recently made history with "The Eras Tour," the highest-grossing concert tour ever. Estimates place her net worth above $1 billion (approximately 31.11 billion baht). This global success has led her and her legal team to place great importance on protecting her personal brand from commercial misuse.
