US Police Arrest 18-Year-Old Man with Shotgun Attempting to Storm Capitol in Washington, D.C.

US police arrested an 18-year-old man carrying a shotgun and ammunition who attempted to storm the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., one week before former President Trump’s annual policy address. So far, no motive for the act has been reported.

Capitol police arrested an 18-year-old male suspect, later identified as Carter Camacho from Smyrna, Georgia, as he ran toward the US Capitol building in Washington, D.C., carrying a shotgun and ammunition. He wore a vest and gloves, prepared for a full attack, but was stopped by officers at the building entrance. Officials ordered him to drop his weapon, which he complied with without resistance, lying flat on the ground before being taken into custody. The incident occurred yesterday (17 Feb) local time in Washington, D.C., USA.

Authorities are currently investigating the suspect’s true motive to determine whether he intended to attack members of Congress. However, since Congress was not in session, no members were present inside the building at the time.

“We had no idea what could have happened if there had not been officers on guard at the scene,” said the Capitol Police Commander.

Police found gas masks and a Kevlar helmet inside the suspect’s SUV, which was parked near the US Botanic Garden on Maryland Avenue, close to the Capitol building.

Officials told the media that the suspect has no prior records in police databases. The vehicle was not registered in his name, and he has multiple residences with no fixed address.

The suspect faces charges of carrying an unlicensed rifle and possessing unregistered firearms and ammunition.

This incident occurred just one week before US President Donald Trump was scheduled to deliver his annual State of the Union address to Congress in this building.

However, the Capitol Police Commander confirmed that the incident will not affect the security plans for the upcoming event.
