South Korean Woman Charged with Double Murder Found to Have Used ChatGPT to Plan Killings

A 21-year-old South Korean woman has been charged with the murders of two men. Police found evidence on her mobile phone indicating she had repeatedly searched on ChatGPT about the dangers of mixing sleeping pills with alcoholic drinks.

Seoul police revealed that the suspect, identified only by the surname "Kim," committed the murders of two men. Examination of her mobile phone showed she had used ChatGPT to ask questions such as what happens if sleeping pills are taken with alcohol, how many sleeping pills are dangerous, and whether they can cause death.

This information contradicts Kim's earlier statement that she had mixed benzodiazepine-containing sedatives into a drink but was unaware that it could be fatal.

Kim was arrested on 11 February on charges of assault causing death after two men died and another lost consciousness following their entry into a hotel with her.

Police stated that the first incident occurred on 28 January in the Suyu-dong area of Gangbuk District, Seoul. Kim stayed at a hotel with a man in his twenties before leaving alone two hours later. The man was found dead in the hotel room the next day.

Later, on 9 February, she was accused of using the same method on another man of a similar age at a different hotel in Gangbuk District.

Officials added that an earlier attempt took place in December last year when Kim mixed sedatives into her then-boyfriend’s drink in a coffee shop parking lot in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, causing him to lose consciousness but survive. Authorities are currently expanding their investigation to determine if there are additional victims beyond the three confirmed cases.
