Vietnamese Airlines Sign Agreement to Purchase 90 Boeing Aircraft

Three major Vietnamese airlines have signed contracts to purchase 90 aircraft from Boeing, valued at over 1.08 trillion baht, reflecting growth in the aviation industry and signaling positive trade relations with the United States.

On 19 Feb 2026 GMT+7, foreign news agencies reported that three Vietnamese airlines—Vietnam Airlines, Sun Phu Quoc Airways, and VietJet—signed agreements with Boeing, the U.S. aircraft manufacturer, to purchase a total of 90 airplanes worth about 30 billion U.S. dollars, approximately 1.08 trillion baht.

The signing occurred during the visit of Mr. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to the United States to attend the launch of the Board of Peace committee, an initiative by President Donald Trump aimed at resolving global conflicts. This deal also took place amid ongoing negotiations on a new trade agreement between Vietnam and the U.S.

Vietnam’s national carrier, Vietnam Airlines, announced signing a contract worth 8.1 billion U.S. dollars (approximately 291.6 billion baht) to purchase 50 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, with deliveries scheduled between 2030 and 2032. The airline expects its fleet to grow to about 151 aircraft by 2030. Additionally, Vietnam Airlines is negotiating with Boeing to purchase up to 30 wide-body aircraft valued at a maximum of 12 billion U.S. dollars (around 432 billion baht).

Meanwhile, Sun Phu Quoc Airways, a new Vietnamese airline, signed an agreement worth 22.5 billion U.S. dollars (approximately 810 billion baht) to order 40 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Low-cost carrier VietJet secured financing of 965 million U.S. dollars (about 34.74 billion baht) through Griffin Global Asset Management to fund the purchase of six Boeing 737-8 aircraft.

Analysts view this large-scale aircraft order not only as a reflection of Vietnam’s expanding aviation industry but also as a positive signal for trade and political relations between the two countries.
