President Donald Trump has ordered government agencies and the Pentagon to expedite the public release of classified documents related to extraterrestrials and UFOs, emphasizing the issue's importance to the public. He also criticized Barack Obama for discussing the matter on a podcast, calling it a disclosure of information that should have remained secret.
President Donald Trump stated that he has instructed federal agencies to begin the process of releasing documents related to extraterrestrials and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), describing the issue as "highly interesting and important" to the public.
Trump posted on Truth Social that, due to overwhelming public interest, he will direct Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and relevant agencies and organizations to start searching for and releasing government documents related to extraterrestrial beings, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs).
In addition to ordering the release of classified files, Trump criticized former Democratic President Barack Obama regarding a viral podcast interview with Brian Tyler Cohen, in which Obama spoke about the existence of extraterrestrial life and dismissed rumors about "Area 51."
Obama stated on the podcast, "They are real, but I have never seen them, and they are not stored at Area 51. There is no underground base like that, unless there is a grand conspiracy hiding it even from the U.S. president."
Trump commented that Obama revealed information still classified, which should not have been disclosed and was a major mistake. However, Trump did not specify which parts of Obama's remarks were classified. When asked about his personal belief, Trump replied, "I don't know if they are real or not."
Obama's office has not responded to these criticisms. Previously, Obama posted on Instagram that during his presidency, he never saw evidence of contact with extraterrestrial life. He viewed the vastness of the universe statistically, suggesting other life likely exists, but the chance of visiting Earth is very slim due to the great distances involved.
Information from Pentagon reports in 2022 and 2024 aligns in stating there is no evidence of alien technology or emergency landings on Earth. Most sightings were simply ordinary objects or natural phenomena misidentified.
The U.S. National Archives confirmed that it does hold records related to UFOs, though these are scattered across various collections of government documents.
Trump's move is closely watched to see if the information released will reveal any "secrets" previously unknown to the world.
