Florida Approves Renaming Palm Beach Airport to Donald Trump Airport

Florida state representatives and senators have approved renaming Palm Beach International Airport to Donald Trump Airport. Republican representatives remain opposed, while the governor has not expressed whether he will sign the bill into law.

Yesterday (19 Feb), a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport as "Donald Trump International Airport," after the current U.S. president, was approved by Florida legislators with votes of 25 to 11 in the Senate and 81 to 30 in the House of Representatives.

Most Republican members supported the bill, while Democrats voiced opposition. Lois Frankel, a Democratic representative from West Palm Beach, stated that the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature's push to rename the airport ignores public opposition and denies Palm Beach County residents a chance to express their views on this major change, which she called a mistake and unfair.

Next, the bill will be sent to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, who has not yet revealed whether he will sign it. Meanwhile, the governor's office, the White House, Palm Beach County spokesperson, and the Trump Organization have all declined to comment.

The initiative to rename the airport after President Trump began after Florida approved a plan to donate land in downtown Miami for constructing the Trump presidential library last year.

President Donald Trump was born in New York. He lived in the penthouse at Trump Tower before relocating to Florida in 2019. He now resides primarily at the Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach.
