Donald Trump announced a new tariff rate increase on goods from around the world under Section 122, raising it from 10% to 15%, while again attacking the Supreme Court's decision to cancel his previous tariff measures.
On Saturday, 21 Feb 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he would raise the customs duty rate on imports worldwide under a new measure he announced the previous Tuesday, increasing it from 10% to 15%, while continuing to criticize the Supreme Court's ruling that struck down his earlier import tariff policy.
The previous Friday, Trump said he would impose a 10% tariff wall on all goods imported into the U.S. under the authority of Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, replacing the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which the Supreme Court ruled does not grant the president authority to set customs tariffs.
However, on Saturday, Trump announced via Truth Social that he would raise this rate to 15%, effective Tuesday, 24 Feb, even though under Section 122 the measure can only be enforced for 150 days before the administration must seek congressional approval to continue.
Trump stated: “After thorough and comprehensive review of the absurd customs tariff ruling—which was poorly written and reflects an extreme anti-American stance issued by the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday, following months of deliberation...”
“Let this statement serve as my announcement, as President of the United States, to increase customs tariffs by 10% on countries around the world, many of which have ‘exploited’ the U.S. for decades without retaliation (until I took office!), to 15% as permitted by law and legally validated, effective immediately.”
