U.S. Authorities Reveal Identity of 21-Year-Old Gunman Who Stormed Mar-a-Lago Resort Before Being Shot Dead

U.S. media revealed the name of the armed man who entered the restricted area of Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort before being fatally shot by officers. Investigations showed he was 21 years old and from North Carolina.

Several U.S. media outlets, including CBS News, reported that the man fatally shot by the U.S. Secret Service officers while attempting to break into Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in the early hours of Sunday, 22 Feb 2026 local time, was named Austin T. Martin, aged 21.

Mr. Martin was from Cameron, North Carolina. CBS additionally reported that Martin's family had just filed a missing person report for him the previous Saturday.

Officials said he carried a shotgun and a gasoline can while trespassing into Mar-a-Lago. He took advantage of a moment when a guest was exiting through the north gate of Mar-a-Lago to enter.

Authorities are currently investigating whether he purchased the shotgun during his drive from North Carolina to Florida or acquired it by other means.

FBI Director Kash Patel posted a brief statement on social media saying the FBI is "committing all necessary manpower and resources to investigate the incident that occurred this morning at President Trump's Mar-a-Lago," confirming that "an armed individual was shot dead after illegally breaching the restricted area."

The FBI will coordinate with the Secret Service, state and federal partners, and will provide updates as they become available.

Earlier, Rick Bradshaw, Palm Beach County Sheriff, told reporters that security personnel encountered a white male carrying a gasoline can and a shotgun. Deputies confronted the man after he entered the innermost restricted area at 01:30 local time on Sunday.

Officers ordered the man to disarm; he complied by setting down the gasoline can but then raised the shotgun in a firing stance. At that moment, officers decided to shoot to "neutralize the threat."
