
Japanese authorities revealed that six people were injured and sent to hospitals during this year's annual "Naked Festival," which attracted thousands of participants.
On 23 February 2026, Japan's NHK News reported that the Hadaka Matsuri, held at Saidaiji Kannon-in Temple in Okayama city this year, resulted in six people being injured, including three in critical condition who were unconscious.
Japan's Emergency Management Office stated they received injury reports around 10:00 p.m. during the festival, while organizers disclosed that over 10,000 people took part.
The Naked Festival, known as "Hadaka Matsuri," involves men of all ages wearing only loincloths as they crowd into the temple to receive auspicious blessings. This festival has been held continuously for over 500 years.
