A shocking clip showing a rat climbing onto a food plate inside the food court of Lucky Plaza mall in Singapore has been widely shared on social media. The rat then runs across a table in front of customers. Singapore's food authority is urgently investigating the matter.
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) issued a statement on Monday, 23 Feb 2024 GMT+7, confirming it has launched an investigation into the incident of a rat appearing on a dining table at the Lucky Plaza food court after the video quickly spread on social media.
The widely shared clip shows a rat standing on a food plate before running across the table, while a woman hurriedly grabs her handbag and flees as the rat approaches.
Later, a man walked in and used a tablecloth to catch the rat and remove it from the area amid the panic of those present at the scene.
The caption on the clip indicates the incident occurred at the food court inside Lucky Plaza, a well-known mall in downtown Singapore.
SFA stated that although it has food safety oversight measures in place, food operators must strictly adhere to hygiene and proper food preparation standards. It added that if sufficient evidence is found, it will enforce the law without hesitation.
