Cambodian Defense Ministry Denies Thai Claims of 40mm Grenade Launcher Fire Near Preah Vihear Border, Calls Reports False

Cambodia's Defense Ministry denies Thai reports of firing a 40mm grenade launcher, firmly stating no weapons were fired as alleged by the Thai side. It calls for stopping the spread of false news, concerned it may affect border relations.

On 24 February 2026, Lieutenant General Mali Socheta, spokesperson for Cambodia's Defense Ministry, issued a statement rejecting allegations from the official Thai military page and some Thai media outlets reporting that Cambodian forces fired one 40mm grenade launcher round towards a Thai patrol point at 08:50 near the area opposite Kul Prum Bey, Preah Vihear Province.

The Cambodian Defense Ministry spokesperson strongly affirmed that these allegations are untrue and urged the Thai side to cease spreading distorted information, which could cause misunderstandings and escalate tensions.

Reports from Cambodia's 4th Military Region stated that following reports of explosions and gunfire from the Thai side, coordination teams from Cambodia's 4th Military Region and Thailand's 2nd Military Region immediately engaged in discussions. The Cambodian side clearly communicated that no weapons were used as alleged.
