Tensions in the Middle East have intensified sharply. China has issued an urgent announcement urging its citizens in Iran to evacuate as quickly as possible. At the same time, it has advised Chinese nationals in Israel to increase their emergency preparedness following a significant U.S. military buildup in the region.
On 27 Feb 2026 GMT+7, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement via social media urging Chinese citizens residing in Iran to enhance their safety measures and evacuate the country as soon as possible, citing a significant rise in security risks in the Middle East.
Additionally, China has advised its citizens to avoid traveling to Iran at this time. It confirmed that the Chinese embassy and consulates in Iran and neighboring countries will provide necessary assistance to those seeking to leave, whether via commercial flights or land routes.
Meanwhile, the Chinese embassy in Israel has issued a warning urging Chinese citizens to remain highly vigilant, boost emergency preparedness, and avoid leaving their residences unless necessary. It also recommended familiarizing themselves with air raid shelters and evacuation routes to ensure safety of life and property.
China’s actions coincide with the U.S. authorizing non-essential embassy staff to depart Israel amid reports of a possible attack on Iran and the largest regional military reinforcement in decades.
