Oman's Foreign Minister stated that Iran has agreed not to stockpile enhanced uranium and is open to full inspections, aiming to block the development of nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Trump emphasized he does not want any enhancement at all.
On 28 February 2026, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi, Oman's Foreign Minister and mediator, revealed in an interview with CBS News that Iran agreed not to stockpile enhanced uranium in talks with the US. He described this as an "unprecedented major breakthrough."
In this interview, Oman's Foreign Minister said the agreement means "no accumulation, no stockpiling, and full inspections," stressing this is entirely new. This reduces the importance of uranium enrichment levels because now the negotiating table is discussing zero stockpiling.
He added that if the ultimate goal is to guarantee Iran can never have a nuclear bomb, this negotiation has solved that issue, and significant progress has been made. The final agreement is now within reach.
However, previous late-stage talks between Iranian and US representatives were tense after Iran warned the US to drop excessive demands if it wanted an agreement. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his stance against any uranium enrichment by Iran, even for civilian purposes.
