On 28 February 2026, Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, issued a statement at 15:21 local time, saying Israel and the United States have begun a joint operation to eliminate the “existential threat” posed by the Iranian government.
The Israeli leader’s statement also expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for demonstrating “historic leadership,” while accusing Iran’s government under the Ayatollah regime of inciting the slogans “Death to Israel” and “Death to America” for 47 years, and being involved in the killing of Israelis, Americans, and Iranians alike.
Netanyahu stressed that the Iranian regime must not be armed with nuclear weapons, which would endanger all humanity. He added that this joint operation will create conditions for the Iranian people to determine their own future. Furthermore, he called on all groups within Iran—including Persians, Kurds, Azeris, Balochs, and Ahvazis—to rise up and overthrow tyranny to build a free and peaceful Iran.
At the same time, the Israeli leader urged Israeli citizens to follow the Home Front Command’s guidance, stating that in the coming days, under the operation named “The Roar of the Lion,” everyone must remain patient and strong.
