The Israeli military revealed that it has been planning an attack on Iran together with the United States for several months to dismantle the Iranian government's capabilities and eliminate threats affecting Israel's survival.
On 28 Feb 2026 GMT+7, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement saying that the U.S. and Israel spent several months "closely coordinating plans" before launching a joint operation to attack Iran today.
This coordination enabled the militaries of both countries to "conduct wide-ranging attacks with full coordination and synchronization."
The IDF further stated that the operation aims to "radically undermine the Iranian government's capabilities" and "eliminate threats impacting Israel's survival."
Earlier, CNN reported that Iran's guided missiles and missile launch bases were among Israel's top initial targets.
"Even now, Israeli Air Force fighter jets continue to strike various targets throughout Iran based on precise intelligence," the IDF said, emphasizing that "the operation will continue as necessary."
