Saudi authorities confirmed that Iran attacked Riyadh, their capital city, and the Eastern Province, and warned that Saudi Arabia has the right to retaliate in self-defense.
On Saturday, 28 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Iran launched attacks on Riyadh and the country's eastern regions, warning that their nation reserves the right to defend itself, including by counterattacking.
The Foreign Ministry's statement strongly condemned Iran's blatant and cowardly attacks targeting the Riyadh area and the Eastern Province, noting that these attacks were intercepted.
“In view of this unjustified aggression, the Kingdom affirms it will take all necessary measures to safeguard security, protect its territory, citizens, and residents, including the option to retaliate against such aggression.”
Earlier, the United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran on Saturday, targeting senior leaders and escalating the Middle East conflict. President Donald Trump stated that the strikes aimed to end security threats to the US and provide Iranians an opportunity to overthrow their rulers.
In Tehran, authorities called the attacks unprovoked and illegal, responding by firing missiles at Israel and several Gulf countries hosting American military bases.
