Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed there are multiple signs indicating that Iran's Supreme Leader may have died, but Iranian officials have confirmed that both the Supreme Leader and the President are safe.
Foreign news agencies reported that on the evening of Saturday, 28 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there are "multiple signs" suggesting that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, "is no longer with us," though he did not officially confirm that Khamenei had been killed.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told NBC News that, to his knowledge, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials are still alive. However, Iran has not released any videos of Khamenei since the attacks began on Saturday morning.
CNN previously reported that Khamenei was among the targets of Israel's initial wave of attacks, along with other senior leaders. However, Israeli sources stated there is no confirmed evidence that Khamenei was killed.
"There are many signs indicating that this tyrant is no longer with us," Netanyahu said, adding that Israel has destroyed Khamenei's operational sites. He also stated that operations against Iran require "patience" and will "continue as long as necessary."
"This war will lead to true peace," Netanyahu pledged in his statement.
Shortly after Netanyahu's statement, Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told ABC News that the Iranian President and Supreme Leader are "safe," and that the Iranian government system "remains operational."
