Trump Believes Irans Supreme Leader May Have Died

Donald Trump told several U.S. media outlets that he believes Iran's Supreme Leader died in the U.S. and Israeli attack early last Saturday morning.

On 28 Feb 2026, President Donald Trump spoke by phone with NBC News, where he was asked for his view on reports that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, had died from the U.S.-Israeli airstrike.

Trump said, “I have spoken with many people. We believe it to be true,” adding, “Many of their leaders have also been killed.” He reiterated what he told ABC News earlier and confirmed that the U.S. operation in Iran was “successful.”

Rachel Scott, senior political correspondent for ABC News, stated that Donald Trump just told her he “believes” Iran's Supreme Leader is dead.

When asked if he knew “for certain,” Trump said, “I don’t want to say anything definitively until I see the information myself, but we believe he is dead.”

“And most of their leaders are gone, not just from one location but from two other places we attacked. We have excellent intelligence, so we think most of their leaders are gone.”
