Iranian media reports that the country's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was assassinated inside his residence and office in Tehran, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatens to launch the most intense operation in history.
The official Fars News Agency stated that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died inside his office located in the Supreme Leader's residential district while carrying out his normal duties.
Satellite images from Airbus show black smoke rising from the residential area in central Tehran near the university, which serves as a crucial decision-making center for the Supreme Leader of Iran's theocratic Islamic Republic. The images reveal significant damage to multiple buildings in the area caused by the attack.
An Iranian TV news anchor was moved to tears while reading the statement confirming the Supreme Leader's death. The government declared a 40-day nationwide mourning period. This confirmation came one day after the United States and Israel launched attacks on targets within Iran.
Following confirmation of Khamenei's death, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement threatening severe retaliation against the US and Israel. The IRGC said, "The most intense military operation in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran's armed forces will soon commence against the occupied territories and the bases of the American terrorist forces."
The Iranian government declared, "This great crime must be avenged and will mark the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Islamic world."
Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), the top strategic security body, stated that the joint US and Israeli attacks will ignite a major uprising against global oppressors, emphasizing that Iran and its allies will become stronger and more determined than ever.
