The United Arab Emirates announced that Dubai International Airport sustained damage from an Iranian drone attack, with four officials injured.
Dubai Airport authorities stated that part of the boarding gate buildings at Dubai International Airport (DXB) were damaged on Sunday morning following an Iranian drone attack.
Four officials were injured but received prompt medical treatment. Prior to this, most passengers had been evacuated from the terminal since Saturday as a precautionary measure, following a temporary airport closure order.
Verified social media videos showed smoke filling the passenger terminal while dozens of airline staff calmly evacuated the area. Local witnesses reported seeing several ambulances rushing to the airport immediately after the incident.
The UAE Ministry of Defense said that since the Iranian attacks began on Saturday, they have intercepted up to 195 drones.
However, 14 drones fell inside UAE territory, causing some collateral damage, although no additional fatalities have been reported.
Dubai International Airport is one of the busiest airports globally and a key aviation hub in the Middle East. This incident is likely to have widespread effects on international travel.
