The head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council told state media that the power transition process following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will begin this Sunday, according to the Iranian constitution.
Ali Larijani, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, told state media during a TV interview that initially an interim leadership council will be established to govern. Senior officials such as President Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran's Chief Justice, and representatives from the Guardian Council will take charge temporarily until a new supreme leader is chosen.
At the same time, Larijani warned of attempts to divide the country following Khamenei's death, emphasizing that Iran must remain united during this period and not allow external forces to interfere or create internal discord.
Larijani's announcement comes amid regional tensions after the United States and Israel carried out a major airstrike that killed Khamenei and several senior officials. This significant event affects both Iran's internal politics and overall security stability in the Middle East.
