Iran Fires Missiles at U.S. Aircraft Carrier U.S. Says No Close Miss

The Iranian military issued a statement claiming they fired missiles targeting the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, but the United States confirmed that Iran's missiles did not come close to the ship at all.

On Sunday, 1 Mar 2026, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) released a statement saying they fired four missiles targeting the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which Donald Trump had deployed to the Middle East to pressure Iran.

However, later the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the USS Abraham Lincoln was not attacked by Iranian missiles as claimed.

"The missiles fired did not come close to their target at all," CENTCOM said, adding that the Abraham Lincoln continues to launch fighter jets to support the "relentless mission to protect Americans by neutralizing threats from the Iranian regime."

Prior to the U.S. and Israel launching attacks on Iran last Saturday, Washington and Tehran were engaged in negotiations to resolve disputes over Iran's nuclear program.

Donald Trump attempted to pressure Iran into an agreement by steadily increasing military presence near Iran and throughout the surrounding Middle East region, including sending the world's largest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, to the area.

In addition, the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, along with destroyers, other warships, and squadrons of fighter jets, were also deployed to reinforce the region.
