The death toll from the attack on an all-girls school in Iran during U.S. and Israeli operations has risen to at least 165, while rescue operations have been called off.
Iran's government news agency Fars reported on 1 Mar 2026 that the death toll from the Israeli airstrike on the all-girls school in Minab city last Saturday has risen to at least 165, and that search and rescue efforts at the scene have now ended.
Previously, a spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Education told IRNA that the school was bombed three times during the U.S. and Israeli attacks. However, CNN has not independently verified this claim. The school is located only 61 meters from an Iranian military base.
Reports also state that the school was originally part of that military base, but the two areas have been clearly separated since 2016.
CNN reporters asked Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), about the attack. Hawkins said, “We are aware of reports of civilian casualties resulting from ongoing military operations. We take these reports seriously and are conducting an investigation.”
The Israeli military said it is also investigating the reports. “At this time, I have not been informed of any strikes by Israel or the U.S. in that area. I only know that both we and the Americans are urgently looking into this matter,” a spokesperson said.
