Hezbollah Vows to Confront US-Israel After Khameneis Assassination

Lebanon's Hezbollah group declared its readiness to confront aggression after a US-Israel attack in Iran killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, while Lebanon emphasized that decisions on war belong to the state.

On 2 March 2026, Hezbollah, the armed group in Lebanon, expressed condolences over the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other Iranian leaders killed in a joint US-Israel attack early Saturday morning, strongly condemning the US and Israel's aggression as "the highest crime."

Hezbollah also affirmed its commitment to confront the aggression with confidence in victory from Allah, vowing not to abandon the field of honor and resistance regardless of the sacrifices involved. However, since the attack on Iran began on Saturday, Hezbollah has not launched any attacks against Israel or US interests.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, after an emergency defense council meeting, stated that decisions regarding war and peace are solely the authority of the Lebanese state. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Prime Minister warned firmly against allowing anyone to drag the country into adventures that threaten its security and unity.
